How to reach the Plätzwiese in Prags
Just like the Three Peaks and Lake Prags, the Plätzwiese high plateau is one of the most visited places in the Dolomites. In order to preserve its particularity and to allow all the visitors to enjoy nature as quietly as possible, there are special traffic restrictions during the main season.
Framed by Dürrenstein and Hohe Gaisl, the Plätzwiese plateau is situated at around 2,000 meters above sea level in Prags. If you want to visit the idyllic high mountain pasture, you should inform yourself about the current regulations for access in summer and in winter.

During the summer months, access to the Plätzwiese is subject to a fee, limited to a maximum of 100 cars and possible only during the following times:
- 8 June to 9 July and 11 September to 9 November: before 10:00 am and after 3:00 pm
- 10 July to 10 September: before 9:30 am and after 4:00 pm
Departure from the Plätzwiese is possible at any time. Private buses and camper vans are not permitted on the road to Plätzwiese all year round.
Toll fee for Plätzwiese:
- Before 10:00 am: Cars €10, vehicles with 10-20 seats €30, motorbikes €8
- After 3:00 pm: Cars €7, vehicles with 10-20 seats €20, motorbikes €6
Traffic regulation for Prags in summer
- A special traffic regulation for Prags applies in summer from 10 July to 10 September.
- During this period, the Prags Valley can be reached from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm only by public transport, on presentation of an online reservation or a valid transit permit.
Access with the bus shuttle
- From 8 June to 9 November 2025, bus line 443 provides a connection from Welsberg and Toblach/Niederdorf to the Plätzwiese.
- Online reservation is not required.
- Tickets can be purchased on board the bus. Public transport fares apply.
- Discount and guest cards such as the Südtirol Guest Pass are valid.

- Those who like hiking or biking, can reach the Plätzwiese high plateau in Prags at any time and without restriction.
- On foot, for example, you can start directly at the “Brückele” car park and hike along the wide gravel path to the Plätzwiese (walking time approx. 2-2.5 hours). The trail starting in Schmieden is somewhat longer (walking time approx. 3.5 hours).
- Cyclists reach the high plateau from Schmieden via trail no. 37 in about 2.5 hours, covering approx. 800 metres in altitude.
